BBC - Loch Ness is a giant "spirit level"

"None of us can feel it, but apparently Britain rises and falls by centimeters every 12 hours and 25 minutes as a great bulge of ocean water washes around the country."

I've always loved stories about Loch Ness and the Loch Ness Monster.  I even camped out next to it for several days in the hopes of spotting the monster.....but had to cut the camping trip short after contracting food poisoning from a dodgy pub pie.  But nobody ever told me - until now - that the lake is in fact a giant spirit level!  David Pugh, a visiting professor at the UK National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Liverpool, told the BBC "I have described Loch Ness as the largest spirit level in the world."

Phillip Woodworth from the NOC said "if you were on a boat in the middle of the loch, you certainly wouldn't notice it, but a tide like this has never been observed in a western European lake before."  Here is the full article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-16394421
