What was British Education Secretary Michael Gove thinking? Busy preaching austerity to the working and middle classes and then suggesting a new royal yacht or "floating gin palace" for one of the wealthiest families in the land...is this what the Tories mean by the BIG Society? What planet are they on?

David Bartlett - Liverpool Daily Post - January 16th, 2012: "It's a rare thing I rush to scan through the Guardian of a morning, but today their leaked letter from Education Secretary Michael Gove had me scrambling my organic free-range eggs with that bit more vigour. His suggestion that because we are in the financial mire we should spend more on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is beyond daft. As the rest of us are just keeping our heads above the water Gove is suggesting we present one of the richest families in the land with a £60m floating gin palace.
Downing Street has moved in to torpedo the idea. Even Nick Clegg was allowed to say he disagreed with it during his bizarre and forgettable John Lewis economy speech this morning. I even think the Queen would be embarrassed at such a gift. Pop concert and fireworks display anyone?"
