I was lucky enough to come across this book, The Naturalist's Garden by John Feltwell, while perusing a second-hand bookstore at the weekend. I got it for the bargain price of $3! It shows you how to create a garden sympathetic to the needs of plants and wildlife. It also shows how modern gardens owe a lot to the discoveries of early naturalists, with over 250 photographs, prints and paintings.
This is John Feltwell's website:

There's a chapter on Gertrude Jekyll and her Munstead Wood garden (left). No one supported the naturalistic approach to gardening more than Gertrude Jekyll, although she recognized the need to control it.
My brother George is a proponent of this naturalistic style of gardening. He has his own landscaping company and one of his current projects is the Heavenly Gardens project. Norwich is exceptionally rich in medieval churches, which collectively boast 12 acres of churchyard, much of it potential space for gardens.

He recently landscaped my nephews' golf course in Lancashire.
