Free Tibet

There have been a distressing number of deaths by self-immolation by ethnic Tibetans in recent months....in protest against oppressive Chinese rule.  This recent spate of self-immolation could point to a new radicalization of Tibet’s struggle. The latest is a Tibetan mother of four who set fire to herself in Sichuan province: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-17254051

China violently stamps out religious freedom and culture in Tibet, the mountainous region which has been under Chinese control since 1950. For more information see http://www.freetibet.org/
Self-immolation refers to setting oneself on fire, often as a form of protest or for the purposes of martyrdom or suicide. It has centuries-long traditions in some cultures, while in modern times it has become a type of radical political protest.
