Priceless Victorian Rubbish
I'm
always amazed by what people throw out and have found quite a few
"treasures" left out with the trash on Tuesday refuse pick-up days here
in Chicago. I've always rather liked the expression "one man's trash is another man's treasure"... and I love perusing bric-a-brac stores and flea markets ... so I was thrilled to read this article on today's Guardian website about a hoard of Victorian rubbish – including champagne bottles, tennis balls, sports shoes, bowler hats, medicine jars, clay pipes and tobacco tins – which has been discovered bricked up under steps leading to the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London:
