I'm in the north of England this week and realizing that the economic downturn is much worse up here. As mentioned in this Guardian article, jobs losses are occurring at four times the rate in other parts of the country, adding to the north-south divide and bolstering the growing movement calling for a "voice for the north" through its own elected assembly:
