All Along the Watchtower
Jimi Hendrix's version of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" seems appropriate for these strange times. Dylan
said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've
been doing it that way. Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a
tribute to him in some kind of way."
There must be some kind of way out of here,
Said the joker to the thief,
Said the joker to the thief,
There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen - they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth.
No reason to get excited,
The thief - he kindly spoke,
Businessmen - they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth.
No reason to get excited,
The thief - he kindly spoke,
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour's getting late.
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl, hey.
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour's getting late.
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl, hey.

Democracy is far too important to be the preserve of the elite (Giles Fraser)
There are very few journalists that I find inspiring, but the Guardian's Giles Fraser is one of them:

Puccini aria
Listening to WFMT radio and a beautiful Puccini aria by Dorothy Kirsten.

Cuckoo
One bird that I miss from Europe is the cuckoo. You don't find them here in the U.S. My father used to sing this song: "Cuckoo Cuckoo, what do you do?" and he sang it as a boy soprano in his church and school choirs.
Cuckoo, cuckoo, what do you do?
In April I open my bill;
In May I sing night and day;
In June I change my tune;
In July far far I fly;
In August away I must.

Young white-tailed deer
Young white-tailed deer outside my bedroom window last weekend. I wonder if it was getting a bit of warmth from the cabin and that's why it slept so close. Bit blurry -- taken through a glass window. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-tailed_deer
